Hello help please in identifying this part 87 RAM 50

Please advise this part name and were I might be able to get a replacement or other options thanks. I think it may have something to do with the EGR? It's a funky shaped pipe.

That's called a reed valve. Allows air into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter

How does it work if a part is obsolete and cannot be replaced? Does that mean you can apply for an exemption in regards to local smog rules kimer? Might be time for some funky headers, dumping the cat and going down the Weber path.

When all else fails, search RockAuto.

Napa auto has / had them. IDK if they do anymore. They had them in there Balcamp line. It was a pulsed air injection valve.

You can replace it but its somewhere 100.00 to $200.00 new . I still have one from my 2.0 if you want it pm me . Also have another plug to omit it from my Weber kit.Or just clean it .

Thanks Gents, Mine is completely rusted out. Maxdsm, Not sure your 2.0 will match. The first Mitsu. dealer blew me off and sent me to Dodge. I'll try NAPA. Of course I also have the fuel to rich issue I'm seeing on here a lot. My bed is 8 foot by the way.

I think you will find that the pipe is almost the same price as the valve. MD113958 is the pipe number. No longer available from Chrysler Corp. When I first got my '88 around 10-11 years ago I replaced the valve and the pipe with new ones. Both parts cost me just over $300 CDN each. For all it does, I would remove it and plug the vacuum line to the valve and the hole in the manifold. For what it will cost to replace those parts(if you can find decent ones)you could probably get a Weber.

If you don't need to smog it just remove it. They will cause the O2 sensor to see the engine running lean if they flow air all the time. They should only open during cruse on yours. The first gens just worked all the time there was no o2 sensor tell the feedback carb came out.
