    2.6 (g54b) turbo swap project thread

    Here's a link to the old thread: http://www.mightyram50.net/phpbb3/vi...php?f=70&t=267

    I'll just continue from the old thread since its still accessible. Besides the starion/conquest turbo swap info, the thread contains info on the toyota 5 lug swap for the front, LSD swap and taurus electric fan conversion.

    No real updates, but the truck has been running great for about 3 years now. Needs a new spray bomb paint job though.

    Yeah, truck has been running great with really no problems. Its been my daily for quite awhile now. I still need to do a rear 5-lug conversion. Also, my original spray bomb is fading quite a bit.

    You did the Toyota front swap already? Are you thinking about an explored rear end for the 5 lug or Toyota?

    since I swapped in a montero LSD I'm going to get the axles redrilled. I originally was looking for a toyota axle, but they did not come stock with a LSD and a TRD LSD was pricey. I got my montero LSD for $45 a the local u-pull and was also able to swap some 3.54 gears for a better mpg. A explorer axle with disc brakes would be nice, but the stock brakes have been sufficient.

    Got a drawing for the final wiring on the delay? I got one of those things laying around too, and have been too lazy to sit down and figure it out. Only had the damn delay box since 82 or 83...

    here you go. keep in mind this is for a 2nd gen wiring

    delay - black => ground
    delay - red => +12V
    delay - white => cut blue/red wire from wiper switch (blue/red wire powers slow speed)
    delay - green => cut blue/red wire going to wiper motor
    delay - blue => spliced into blue/white wire (blue/white wire parks wiper motor)

    My Dad's 88 sportcab had a hitch like that on it - it became the rear crossmember when the spare tire carrier rotted though so bad you could push holes in it with no finger pressure.

    my rear crossmember is starting to rust out too.

    my hitch actually came from a dodge caravan and was nowhere close to being bolt on. I had to do alot of cutting and welding to get it to fit.

    His was actually made for the truck - he installed it in 1989 to tow a 13 ft travel trailer with the truck.

    I was originally looking for a hitch made for our trucks, but I was given one off a dodge caravan for free. I thought it would be easy to mount, but ended up being a pain. It might have been easier if I took the bed off first.

    Haven't really done anything with the truck in awhile but just drive it. While at the junkyard awhile back I found a remote oil filler cap assembly from a V6 montero, so after 5 years of doing the swap, I finally have and easier way of filling the engine with oil. With the top mount IC, I had to remove the intercooler every time I needed to add oil, since the original oil cap sits under the TMIC. I just had to weld a bracket for the oil cap and a nipple to the mechanical fuelpump blockoff plate and just connect a rubber hose. This mod will makes oil changes so much easier.

    yeah, I was surprised when I first saw it. Bonus since it uses the same mitsubishi oil cap. Don't know if any other car manufacture has a similar setup.

    I am building a conquest motor for Geronimo, and power is more important than economy, but it shouldn't change significantly if I keep my foot out of it...
