Toasted transmisson
I had to go get e more for the church I had to get a uhaul trailer. I new I was messing up but it was for the church right. 200miles later my trans is hot as a poker and has a strange whine 8-(
I ran in 4th gear It doeant whine.
The truck is still usable I figure its just a matter of time before overhaul is necessary.
Its a 5 speed 4wd 2600eng. What am I going to have to do?
Thanks
ZZ

Did you get this figured out yet. first thing I would do is drain fluid if any is in there. Pull inspection cover on bottom of tranny, See if you can see any issues, check oil for debris. Go from there.

I drained the oil. I know I had too heavy oil and maybe too much. My trans and transfer case have about 300K miles. Its time for TLC. What's the best oil for my old trans? How much does the trans and transfer case hold?
Thanks zz

I like Amsoil, but most any 75-90 gear lube will work. Now if you run a full synthetic you will find any bad seals (its thinner than conventional) and its full when it runs out the fill hole.

If you're going to overhaul it soon I would just use conventional SAE 90. It'll be a lot less expensive.
