    Diesel Conversion

Good Morning! We are working on a conversion on a 1991 Dodge Ram 50, gas to diesel. The diesel came from a 1983 Ford Ranger. I wondered if you would share your favorite suppliers. We need a power steering pump with brackets, an alternator with brackets and pulleys for crank and water pump.

This isn't our first conversion, several years ago we put a diesel from a 1983 Dodge Ram 50 into a 1987 Dodge Ram 50. That was a direct "Dodge" to "Dodge" swap. This one is a little more complicated because it is a "Ford" to "Dodge" conversion but we can make it work!

'83 Ford? Would it be all Perkins accessories then?

those are gutless engines - there was a rebuilt one on ebay a short time ago for $500 don't think it sold.

They are laughable, even for early 1980s technology. I saw specs somewhere for those vintage B-series and Rangers -- like 50 HP? Really, Perkins? Really? Get out and push.

Maranda....is this type of conversion hard to do? I would like to replace my engine with a diesel at some point and time but I do not think any engines will mount up to my 2.6 liter 1988 mighty max. Thanks for any info or suggestions you may have.

My husband's truck is a 1987 Ram50, he put a Mistsubishi 4D55 2.3 liter turbo deisel, replacing the gas motor that he had replaced the original with (it had died a sudden death after many dependable miles). I don't have the fine details of the swap as he is at work today, but I am sure he would be happy to answer any questions as they arise .

For parts, I usually use rock auto, local parts shop, or ebay.
