2.6 head gasket issues
Hello all,
I have an 85-86 Power ram 50 with a G54B engine(I think- that's what it says on the sticker). It is currently at about 247K on the clock on it's 2nd head gasket(maybe more).
I think it is starting to leak again, grey smoke, so I will be pulling it apart and sending it out to get resurfaced and checked.
So my main question is: Is there another Mitsubishi engine that would be a good/relatively simple drop in replacement?
I am looking for something that would fit without lot's of mods. I have a pile of projects ahead of it in the list and it is my ride to work, not stranded but would prefer to drive it instead of other rigs in the fleet.
I will be going for the interim fix to get it by, but would rather do a swap eventually or even find another 2.6 I could rebuild for an easy change out. It has some rust but is a nice ride , and a perfect truck to drive on the 80 mile dirt road I drive out to work every other week.
Thanks

Interesting, would it need a larger/thicker radiator?

The 2.6 radiator should suffice.
I'm not sure what the climate conditions are like in Alaska but here in the lower 48, you never can cool these engines too much really. I'd get an external oil cooler, an electric fan and an all aluminum radiator from Shepherds for extra extra insurance and improved performance. But that may not apply to your climate and driving conditions.

Ok, how about weight, I've seen the power ram 50s with diesel engines - they all had leafs on all 4 corners, the 86 uses the torsion bars.

4D56 is the same engine family as the G54B. They're both Astron blocks. The diesel is slightly heavier. There are heavy duty coil springs available on RockAuto.com.

Ok that's promising, would they be a coil over shock? Mine just has straight torsion bars. Iay end up reinventing the wheel here. Freight is spendy., and we have limited access to wrecking yards
