The auto Trans on my 1991 ram 50 seems to have a big overlap between first and second gear during its shift.
Not sure if the band's need adjusting..
Do these trannies still have a kick down rod or cable?

They have a cable kickdown for shifting - The correct adjustment is just a little slack with the carb at rest

I have fuel injection.
Then there is a ecm for the tranny under the dash that controls the shifting - look up thread for tekjones tranny shifting issues.

I know my van has a FI 2.4l like the 90-92.5 4 banger trucks but a different slushbox. It has a kickdown cable, not only does it have one it's $80 for a NOS cable, ouch.
Having never seen an automatic MM/D50 in person I can't say 100% if it uses a cable too but many early Mitsubishi's did. My cable was attached a couple inches below where the throttle cable was, with a clevis type attachment.
I'll have a look. . The slip sounds like an out of adjustment cable
The more I read about the A500 the more I find that the control module only runs the overdrive and lockup functions as the A500 was basically a 727 with an overdrive on the back.
The guy I bought it from said the overdrive quit while he was hauling scrap....
Now the overdrive and lockup doesnt work.
When I looked this morning I see that the kickdown is still cable driven. Any idea what the proper adjustment for the kickdown is?
Just a little slack in the cable as pennyman said. With throttle plate fully closed btw.
I seem to have that... I bought a filter and will change the fluid. I sure hope this tranny isn't wrecked already
I fixed the kickdown...it was out a ton!!!
Now I can't find the the overdrive relay.
Is it in the same spot as the steering and seat belt relay is? There are 2 open spots but I have no idea where the round relay for the overdrive relay should be.
Can someone take a pic under their dash of the location if the relay?
Thank you thank you thank you to whoever uploaded the Haynes book to this site. I found the spot...he took it out!!!
Off to the parts store tomorrow
Well.... the relay is not the issue so I started digging a little deeper.
I found the temperature control switch tab is broken off. There was a connector right beside it so I assume that should connect to it. When I probed the connector it had 12 volts.
I thought the job of the TCS was to provide ground for the relay?

it is - ground the wire and the O/D will work at all times -the temp switch is to keep the tranny from going into O/D when the motor is cold.

Ok...It just seems wrong to ground a 12volt line
I grounded the wire and it made no difference. .still no overdrive

Should have a troubleshooting section in the manuals downloaded to the site correct?
I checked the TPS and it's in spec, I checked to see if there is 12 volts provided to the Overdrive solenoid, I don't see a speed sensor on the rear axle housing so that can't be the issue. I have the temperature sensor grounded, that didn't help
Its has a brand new overdrive relay too
Well I put a switch in and the overdrive works now.
is that with or without the lead for the temp sensor grounded?

I grounded the temp sensor lead and tapped into the grounds for the lockup and OD.
Right now as soon as I hit the switch it immediately locks the converter and engages the OD.
I'll snap a pic tomorrow
Not that it makes any difference since I switch on the Overdrive with a switch.. but here is the temperature switch for my truck that just came in today..
