gas leak help before i blow up

So everytime i shut my truck off gas spills out from under my truck it looks like its coming from the fuel pump. Has this happened to anyone else? To get the truck to not spill has i have to hurry out of the truck and take off the gas cap i guess to release the pressure?

You can always check by placing a paper towel under and then run it around the block and shut it off. Then look to see if it's leaking.

there is a purge valve that is vacuum operated on the canister that vents to the carb and air cleaner - check it for proper operation. Also pull the canister out and check the filter on the bottom - if it plugs up it won't breathe and vent the tank.

Should there be a hose connected to the bottom?

you can drive with it disconnected - many vehicles have the canisters missing because of these issues. Just be sure to plug the small vacuum line to the purge valve to prevent a vacuum leak

Pull the tank one and leave open, if that does not fix the problem, replace the filler cap.

pump is all that is left - tank vents through the canister.

I know this is late but replaced the pump last month and no more issues. The truck even runs better now that it get the right amount of fuel to the carb

Didn't I say something about that way back when. So I guess that's where the gas was coming from.

Yes you did camoit but I could do it at the time and then more important re pairs came up I had both front cailpers lock up on me while I was on the other side of the state and then my alternator went out but I finally got the truck running perfect now it's time for the drop blocks and a new bed.
