New Owner from Aiken, South Carolina

    Hello!

I've been the proud owner of an 89 Ford Festiva since 2008 and a 94 Miata since 2013, and I recently decided that I wanted a pickup truck, so I bought a 95 Mighty Max a month or two ago.

The seller was asking $2500, but I knew that it would need at least some work, so I gave him $1500 for it. It had 129k on it, and I'm told that it had been sitting in a field for four years before being sold.

Here's what I've done on it thus far:
    -Changed oil, coolant, air filter
-Replaced the shifter lever (it snapped shortly after I bought it)
    -Replaced the tailgate cables
    -New tires
-Replaced A/C lines (to fix leaks) with lines from a junkyard. When I tried to recharge it, the low side was high and the high side was low, so my next step is to replace the compressor. At least it's no longer leaking, though.
    -Replaced the valve cover gasket
    -Replace v-belts
-Had my local shop replace the timing belt, water pump, radiator, and thermostat. The radiator wasn't leaking, but it was running hot over highway distances, hence the radiator/thermostat. I just picked it up today, so I'm hoping that that fixes the heat issue - time will tell.

I just saw the sticky about things to do when you first buy the truck, so I'll work on those things as I have time.

In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out a rattling sound coming from my engine, so I'm going to head over to the General Maintenance forum for that.

In addition, here's what I have slated on the list to do as I have time:
-Replace spark plugs / wires / distributor cap / rotor
    -Replace fuel filter
    -Replace A/C compressor and vacuum/recharge
-Replace oil pan (mine's dented in where the bolt is, and the bolt is cross-threaded)
-Fix horn. As of now the foam that separates the sensors in the steering wheel is worn, so I need to put some sort of insulation in there to keep them separated until I press the horn. There's also a loose connection somewhere in the steering wheel column - the horn won't blow until I literally push up on the column itself, and then it blows regardless of whether the steering wheel is pressed in or not due to the worn foam.
    -Reset the maintenance required light
    -Get my tires aligned
    -Replace speedometer cable
    -Replace squeaky shocks
    -Replace the broken tweeter speakers
-Replace the CD player with something that has aux-in

    Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you got a lot of work ahead of ya.

    What junkyard did you use?

    I'm down in Augusta.

    Got pics of the truck?

I generally go to Graves if they have the part that I need, and go to Pull A Part if Graves doesn't have it. I got the shifter from Graves, the A/C lines, a horn, and a few other misc odds and ends from Pull A Part.

Pull A Part has a better selection, but going to Graves saves me from having to block off a Saturday afternoon to go get the part.IMG_2691.JPG

I generally go to the one in Augusta, but I know that there's also one up in Columbia as well (which I haven't been to yet).
