Here's my first 1st gen swapped truck. You just need room for the CAS to clear. Also the brake booster will have to be moved back an inch to clear the intake manifold.

This is all such great info! My question is what is the clutch setup for a 91 Dem block into 89 truck? There seems to be different options, but what I've gathered is to use the flywheel and pressure plate from the engine with the flywheel machined for the truck pilot bearing. Is this correct? And what clutch disk is preferred? MM? Conquest? Montero?

I'm using a starion clutch replacement. If you want to order one I'd suggest rockauto cause they sell ala cart style to make things easier and the local auto parts stores around me only sell sets. The 87 starion/conquest clutch that measures 8-7/8 inches is the one that fits, not the 88+ Because it measures 9-7/16 inches.

This is a super awesome resource. Can it be expanded to add a bit about the automatic transmission option? I know it's not popular but some of us prefer the slushbox. What works?

The Torquelite Baby 904 3 speed and Aisin Warner found in the 1st Gen Trucks all bolt to the narrow pattern 4G63. The Aisin Warner bell housing can be swap with a 6GXX bell housing found in the early automatic Monteros.

I've got an 87 D50 automatic. I don't have the engine, but the TF904 is in the engine compartment. What Eclipse engine should I be looking for that would be a direct drop in? What years??

All FWD engines are narrow block/mounting pattern. You'll need something from a truck or van from the same production/year models as your truck.

Hi, so sorry to revive this thread if it was dead. I’m new to mitsu besides a full size Montero I’ve owned for about a year. I’m doing some trading and the guy is offering an 88 d50 with a “dead” g63b and a manual trans. From the info I’ve gathered in this I can swap any fwd 4Gxx with “drivers side orientation”. Now my questions. What is the “drivers side orientation” and “passenger side orientation”?

Ok whichever side the timing belt is on is the orientation.
