5 bolt direct (or almost) is using hubs off a late 80's early 90's Toyota 2WD pick up (there is a write up somewhere on the forum). If you want the same bolt pattern as the Toyota (5 on 4.5") then use a first gen Ranger 7.5" as the Mustang's is a 4 bolt. If you look at my build that's what I did. I run a 17x7 with a 42mm back space and the front and back track width is the same. If you go with a Ford diff then you will have to take your driveshaft in and have a Ford U-joint yoke installed (cost me $45) so you can use a stock ford U-joint and bolting flange.
thank you
Toyota hubs 97-04 bolt to our spindles and you have to shim the caliper. Dozens of rears can be bolted in with and without mods. The Ford 8.8 is an awesome rear to use and there is a full writeup on how to select, narrow and swap into a MM in the tech section.
Wheres that write up at
In the tech section. Can't miss it.
I put Toyota hubs on front and a 9 in. Ford rear under mine.
