Heads back from shop had some ????

Just got 2.0 head from machine shop and had some questions ....

Took the rocker arm shaft assembly off to put in the tappets do they go in with The hole side up into the rocker arms And also do I need to prime them if they are brand new?

Second I'm having some troubles lining the rocker arm rail assembly lining up . there is a slight gap in the first rocker by the cam. also the manual shows there are 2 washers to go next to the last rocker arm?are they needed? > >

The spring washers have a number functions - to prevent the sides of the rocker arms wearing in their retainers, to keep the rockers centred over the heads of the valves and to allow some degree of movement under load. So short answer - yes, they should be installed.

Soak in oil and hole toward rocker. That is where the oil will come from. The first gen was splash and spray. No direct lube to cam and rockers so the journals always look bad. But thats just how they are.

I picked up some brass exhaust bolts at Lowes I think. The intake lower bolts on mine when they were removed came out with the studs also. The washers on rocker rods are sort of bowed shape to create a kind of tension spring effect with rocker. Here is the Part number for them to google search them - MD000964 waved washers

What do the veterans say about that special break-in oil for rebuilt items?

be sure to use a break in oil with ZDDP in it to help harden the lobes of the cam on breakin

Soak or use a pre-run grease. Comes in a tube and just lather that stuff all over. Your rocker rod will take time to pressure up with oil being brand new so you might squirt some inside it if you can.

No need for 'special' break in oil ! absolutely not needed.

Oil is not the issue, Assembly Lube is...

    Molybdenum is Your Friend...

'Hot Moly' migrates to Heat--- evil bitch ---- interestingly That 'Ho' loves to bond with zinc dithiophosphate.

    So... succinctly (lol)

Use any > 14% moly assembly lube of choice .

also known as ZDDP - do not use synthetic oil for break in - it is too slippery and will not allow for proper break in. And any non standard brand of motor oil(brad penn, amsoil, redline, some royal purple) has zddp for use in older vehicles.
