I got the rebuild kit from Rockauto and replaced all the seals, think it was $65.00 and took me about an hour to change all the seals. Mine was leaking from the input shaft and the pitman arm shaft.

Any details or tips on installing the rebuild kit? My '91 has a slow but persistent leak.

Ask Fordubishi,he re done his completey, I just done the bottom seal at the pitman arm

Just be damn careful not to lose any of the ball bearings (think is 26) other then that just follow the instructions in the first gen online manual. Try not to stretch the teflon seals to much (white ones)

Dumb question:
There are two listed, which one do I buy for my Mighty Max? 1) EDELMANN Part # 8745 Power Steering Repair Kit RWD, 2) GATES Part # 349400 Power Steering Repair Kit; Stg. Gear Major Seal Kit RWD

I went to a salvage yard and got another one and put it on,but I'm back to having to put in the bottom seal again, just like my 1st box was doing

Where's this first gen online manual at? I ordered the kit from rock auto myself and am going to be rebuilding my steering gear but can't find any manual online.
-
If your truck is an 89, it is a 2nd gen, but the instructions should be the same.
-
Yeah, just saying I'm not finding those instructions anywhere. I've googled steering gear rebuild, ram 50 mighty max. Etc the most I see is just an exploded diagram no instructions exactly.
-
Bottom of the site in Manual's section then there's a sub section on First Gen manual.open that up an go to PDF file 19: Steering power and manual.

LOL of coarse you replace a 30 year old steering box with another 30 year old it's gonna be same condition. The rebuilders never do it right. The shaft usually wears a groove in it making any seal leak. The shaft has to be welded and ground like repairing a crankshaft. So buying a rebuilt box is always the best option because it's warrantied. The only rebuilder I trust is A-1 cardone. They seem to always get it right. Not just a spray paint and o ring job.

Blue max did you change just the bottom soft seal on the gearbox? Are there 2 seals in there on the bottom where the pitman arm attaches?

Oh man I probably need this. Its just covered in oily grime where the steering linkage goes in and I have to top off the power steering fluid once in a while.
