94' mm rear end swap question

I know that you can use the montero rear end from a 1st or 2nd generation or an 8.8 explorer. My reason for swapping is to convert to rear disc brakes and a LSD unit. Which rear end would be more simple to swap? Also, does the 8.8 explorer rear end require different axles or hubs? Thank you all in advance!

With the explorer axle you are going to have to worry about the leaf spring perches not lining up, driveshaft not bolting to it, it being a bunch wider, and different lug pattern. I would go with a Montero or dodge raider rear end.

Look in the tech section for all you need to know about swapping the 8.8 in. It's work, but it has and can be done all day by just about anyone with a brain.

The disc-braked Montero Sport rear axle will also work, look for a leaf spring model and it should be bolt in.

but be sure of the axle ratio - they were mostly 4.22 and 4.63s - your speedo will be off unless you change the speedo gear on the tranny to match
