Intermittent tick
I have an 89 power ram 50 with a 2.6 that has an intermittent tick at idle and while driving. Its coming from the right side of the engine. I think it could be a lifter. Any ideas?

Yep.. replace the lash adjusters and it will take care of the problem. You can get part from rockauto.com. There should be a good discount code in the discount thread.

Ok great thanks for your help

OR, if it's still cold up there, run some Marvell Mystery Oil in the oil (I've used Diesel fuel, but it's warmer here) and maybe a lighter oil.
Did it just start ticking or was something done to the engine?

The weather up here has warmed up a fair bit was 80 yesterday and still ticking. I haven't touched the engine at all since I bought it. The tick just started

The lash adjusters are cheep. Just swap them out. If someone hit you on the head 4000 times a minute for 30 years you would fail at some point. There just a little check valve and they can get junk stuck in them. Even if it ticks it will still run. Just don't run around to long with out changineg it. It can fall apart, or it might have already. You never know tell you look. It's just like schrodinger's cat.

You say you've done nothing to the engine. Did you at least change the oil? Poor maintenance will also cause them to make noise.
