It should be electronic ignition not points. I have never seen points in one. It could be that someone made a change to points by doing it them self. But I have never seen it in our trucks.

the only 2.6 with points I have ever seen where the early caravans and k-cars with the 2.6. There may have been performance distributers around for the 2.6 colt racers I never saw. All trucks came with electronic ignition on all engines.

You might be interested in something like Megajolt. Someone on the board here used it and a Ford EDIS with the matching trigger wheel and said it improved everything. Looks reasonably priced too -- less than an MSD and coil bought new.
