Help! valve spring will not release when i put the spring compressor on it.

The spring will compress up from the head but will not slide down the stem to reveal the keeper, I would like to change my stem seal, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is the head on or off.
If the head is on the truck you need to use compressed air to hold the valve "UP" Otherwise you can drop the valve into the engine. I have herd of people using a real long peace of string and putting it into the cylinder through the plug hole. Then they would turn the engine over by hand tell it make contact with valves. Then change the seal. turn the engine the other direction by hand and then pull the string back out.

I got it off, I used compressed air to hold the valve and gave the spring a couple of raps with a socket and extension centered over the valve, I could feel it give way after a couple of light hits. Thanks
