so my 86 has a decent amount of play in the steering wheel while driving. it had power steering but at some point someone decided to remove it all together instead of fixing it.. is there anyway to fix this without to much trouble??? i need to pass an inspection soon!!!

Photographs of the steering system would help, so we could see what has been fudged and what has been respected. Likely you have some ball joint issues along with other connections that need attention. Though there is an adjustment you can make at the steering box itself, you are best to address any slop in the linkages first. I am no expert on the power steering on these trucks, but some members have actually installed power steering where there was none before. With photos you've posted, they can probably help you a great deal. This is an amazingly resourceful forum.
