DSM LOL. A mighty max build.

Well I recently re-aquired a 1994 mighty max. Had it just over 2 years ago, painted and cleaned it up, sold it, put a used ingine in it, new radiator, new clutch, and took out the front cut springs. Well the owner got a new car and left this back to me for round 2.

    Plans:

    Drop 4" front and rear
    Roof rack
New mesh wheels 15x7. Later on (Wide wheels and streched tires)
    Fix hood and cowel
    Repaint silver/white/blue (one of those)
    Repaint interior
    Redo carpet
    Battery relocation
    New or refinished seat covering
    Clean up engine bay
    Headlight and turn signal conversion
    Wood grain wheel
Add hitch and possibly build trailer for it

    Performance:
    Custom intake pipe
Turbo current 2.4L 8v sohc engine mildly (4-5psi)
T25 or 14B turbo from dsm
Blow up engine and rebuild or swap

(these are all the basic things I will be doing in the future, not in any order per say)

How it sits now, have not done a thing to it yet. A slow and steady build: Enjoy.

Nice looking truck, man. Mine is similar condition (paint not buffed yet tho)..need buckets also, benchy is goney! also.. Going diesel for now, as I put a deposit on a new 2.5 4d56 Friday. Going to play with it and she what I can get reliably from it ...planning to stay somewhat sane to keep hwy mpg decent (and reliable), as its a dd, and used for work. Haul trailers and solar panels etc.

Got it into the garage and checked everything out. Needs more work than I had thought.

Rust on the roof and missing the top molding:

The hood, supports, and the cowl are all damaged good time well. Will be making due for now, untill I can find a nice hood.

Rear of the bed needs alot of work also, will hold out and wait to find a good donor.

And a shot of the front end, the s10 lip I made has been through a bit of stuff, its going to be removed and fixed.

That roof rust is a strange spot to get rusted. You'd think it would run off and find a pocket to puddle in somewhere, hmmm
I just found a little on my truck, just below the drivers door where they put a molding seam in the body.
Well, you got something to do for fun...

WOw, That roof rust is scary! I'm going outside rightnow to check mine..(Its under the center light, correct?) That damn light probably holds moisture there and rusts like crazy, once seals go..and thats usually in 5 to 6 yrs or so, LONG ago on my 1995! Ypur paint is in waay better shape than mine tho..Gotta get all mechanical work done first. I got a bumper hitch from u pull it for 40 +8 tax, and put a h frt receiver on it..workd GREAT and cheap! Sanded and painted it up, and the bumper is plenty stout, made of 1/4 plate steel! and lots of it! (unless u want to keep the "rolled" rear look (which is cool also). The 1st gen bumpers will fit as they are the exact same. New ones are 450, I think...NO THANKS!

@ Brad: Yeah its a very odd place to find rust. I hope Ill be able to fix it enough to last a while.

@ Thill: I painted this truck myself over 2 years ago using duplicolor ready to spray paint from the part store, and some regular 2 part clear coat. Its held up alot better than I though it would for the price. The rust in the picture is above the windshield actualy, not the rear window. And it seems to be the only place I have found rust. Very odd.

Hope to spend a little time this weekend on it and see what I can do.

Shoot, you live on the coast like me, rust is possibly worse on some cars then up north. If you live on the bay or next to it, the salt water will eat these up! Luckily im far enough away that its not that bad on anything I own. (other than this spot)

Just ordered a new shift knob, a large 6" bubble "drift" style, if you will, clear knob. I wanted something larger as I have a knob from a 2G DSM on it at the moment and its just to dang short, I am tired of reaching down and nearly leaning over to grab it. Also, some 3" blocks for the rear, and som e upper ball joints so I can install the cut springs again. Finish the interior, the front lip, and the bozo style exhaust and take it for a little photo shoot.

    Update:

Some new parts that arrived, shifter and lowering blocks.

Junk yard adventure, found a parking lamp, and a valve cover that I can use to paint and add to the engine.

A sweet little Mitsu work truck I wish I could have. What a shame!

INterior work. New handle and new carpet floormats installed.

Front end lip damage and fixed. Other shot, sits to high. To high...

Those carpet mats are nice. All one piece and no more mat slipping up under the brake and clutch peddles. Where did you come up with those?

Lol, Yeah I gots it back. Thanks fellas.

The floor mat is for a 11-13 Kia sorento 2nd row. I had an extra one so I decided to use it. Looks really nice and your right no slipping at all.

Hope to be going to the junk yards in the next couple weeks again for some seals and these wheels:

Paint them white, is the plan.

Yeah all the ones from 2006+ have the exact same 6 lug. Problem is the KIA's have a stock offset of like 45 - 50. I test fitted one, witout a large spacer it hits the upper controll arm. And they dont realy look cool. Those others are from a nissan pathfinder, should be a bolt on affair. 15x6.5, so not very large but I love, LOVE mesh wheels.

Yep, Ive looked at those too. Luckily for me a yard with the nissan wheels is close to me. And I have a free set of used 15" tires that are near perfect size.

Some teaser pics: Before and after seat cover.

Test fitting the roof rails. Sorry for the fuzzy pics, didnt realize it untill I uploaded it. Ill be getting better ones once I finish the hood and pull it back outside.

I wanna see this thing with a turbo. Lol.

You didn't want to switch to buckets? Also I had mush more rust then you around the windshield. The drivers side bottom corner rotted to almost nothing and the glass cracked because of it. I wanna say atleast 7 different spots.

Yeah eventually Ill turbo it. I had DSM bucket seats in it for a while back when, but I like the bench better. It shall stay for now.

I just ordered a new intake filter, mushroom style, will fit my custom intake set up to it, and all new lights from thailand. Clear bumber lights, clear 2 way corner lights, and red/clear tails... very excited to see them.

Any cutting or anything to get those to fit, I assume they are just like the alloy titan rims that the center hole is to small.
