    bogging

i have a 95 w/ a 2.4 that is fuel injected. i haven't been able to get it into the shop yet so i figured i'll ask you guys for some input. when i start the truck after it sits for awhile it'll idle fine but when i start driving it boggs down bad and starts popping. it's been progressively getting worse and more frequent. i'm thinking maybe the fuel pressure regulator but i wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

    thanks for any help

That or dirty injectors, timing is off, tight valves, Timing belt has slipped or getting ready to break. Vacuum leek, MAF is dirty. Fuel filter is plugging up.

Thanks. The timing is good, I just did the belt a couple months ago. I also did the fuel filter. So we'll see what happens when I get it in shop. I'll keep you guys updated.

well i just checked it out on my lunch. its my idle speed motor position sensor. $320 our price, it lists for $500.....holly crap! the good thing is that if i let it warm up it'll idle rough for a minute then clear up...for now. so maybe i can get some more time out of it before it completely shits out.

Is the engine light on? If so you can pull the codes with a multimeter.

The light isn't on but there is a code stored, I checked it with the verus. It's code 15(motor position sensor) apparently it doesn't stay light because it clears up. I checked the resistance in the sensor and its not within spec. I'm just waiting now to get some money for the sensor.

The idle sensor has no issue with bog off idle. You sure you don't mean the TPS? Throttle position sensor? Because that would make sense

it boggs if jump in the truck cold and start driving but if i let it idle before driving it'll idle rough for a second then the rpm will bump up. it usually does this twice then i can drive it with no problems. the motor position sensor controls the plunger in the idle speed contol motor. i tested the resistence in all of the sensors and that was the only one not within the specs. but i'm gonna get into it alittle more before i spend that much money. just haven't had the time lately.

Sounds like carb settings or dirty mixture needles, choke settings.
TPS can cause hesitating and rough idle and such. The wife's car coded a tps error and it was getting scary sometimes crossing a busy intersection with the delay the engine would do when hitting the gas.

    Brad,
No carb or needles, or choke, the 95 4g64 is Fuel injected, not picking on ya. It's sounding like a o2 sensor going bad. not working when it's cold so the ECU is in limp mode, once it warms up and is sending a good signal, the ECU goes closed loop and adjusts the mixture correctly for the environment.

Is this a cols start issue only?

Ok so I'm all fixed up now. I hooked up the verus again and went into the trouble shooter section and checked code 15. There was a hint in there that a build up in the throttle body can cause the code. So I cleaned it and adjusted the throttle screw and tps sensor. No more weird idle, bogging and codes.

That was an easy fix. Helps to have Verus
