So I came across another issue with the timing. This whole time my cam has been timed off of the top of the head (oops) instead of the mark, which I failed to see before. I also just bought an 89' D50 yesterday for $50. Im going to be using some parts off of it, mostly cosmetic, but the motor is blown but supposedly the tranny is nearly new. Its a 5 speed and I am willing to give it to someone who really needs it, and can pick it up. Ill be posting about it in the correct section soon after I get pics.

if it was off a tooth that would make sense. Many times the book makes you think the dot goes even with the head but there is a casting mark you need to align it to.

My cam doesn't even have the dot. Would a 89 d50 cam fit on my 94 mm
you think?

Maybe install an needle vacuum gauge with a hose attached to the unknown tube you have there. You can meter engine vacuum and it gives you something to look at when your bored. Vacuum gauges are relatively cheap, but they can tell you a lot about the engine performance and some issues.

The cams are the same. I'm running a 90 d50 cam with a 91 mm head on my 94 mm since my old one had some trash that spun in the head and gouged the head and cam.
