    Vacuum Guage Input

    Hello

I am planning to install a vacuum guage on a 1987 dodge ram 50 (2.6L) with automatic transmission and CA emissions. I am wondering where to connect the vacuum guage input. I was thinking of connecting it to one of two places.

    1. The easiest location would be a T connector to the distributor (vacuum advance?). From what I can tell, this is the vacuum switch which connects to the top of the disributor. One hose has a vacuum and the other one does not.

    2. On the side of the engine, beneath the carb and a cluster of hoses is a 5 connector "Tree". In the engine diagrams in the maintenance book it refers to this tree as a vacuum and shows just three connectors. In my engine it has 5 connectors. I think all of the hoses connected here will be of equal pressure.

    Any advice is appreciated.

You want manifold vacuum. Any place directly into the intake or after the carb.

    Hello Camoit,

I believe "any place directly into the intake" will be the tree vaguely shown in the photo. Likewise I think "after the carb" is one of the hoses labeled A, B, or C in the photo. If you get a chance please take a look at the photo and let me know your expert advice.

in this picture you will see the tree. It's any port that is exposed to the manifold vacuum. You can t into any line that is exposed.

    Hello Camoit,

I believe the T you mention is the one in the center of your picture and the one pointed to by the arrow in mine. I did attach there and I got it working. If anyone is interested I have a video of the Vacuum gauge I built.

Keep in mind this truck is a work in progress as is the gauge.

    The videos are here: http://netskink.blogspot.com
