    1988 Macroab

New to this forum but not Mighty Max's.

Well here's my build thread/restore thread for my 88' Macrocab.

    Here's sticky:
1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Macrocab 2wd
2.6L truck originally 5 speed originally
S83 paint code with brown interior
147K Miles at time of purchase
No pwr, no cruise, no P/S, no A/C

    Drivetrain:
2.6L Turbo swap from an 88' Starion
    Big FMIC
    Blitz SS BOV
    Blaster SS coil
    walbro 255lph inline fuel pump
    12" Electric fan
    open element Air filter
    NGK-R plugs
    Stage 2 clutch

    Suspension:
    2" drop spindles
    3" drop blocks
    middle leaf missing

    Wheels n' rubber:
    17" Cadillac Escalade rims
    245/45R17 Continental's in rear
    235/45R17 Pirelli's in front

    Misc.:
    Boost gauge
    Tach
    Water Temp gauge

Problems to be addressed for restore:
    Body work (mostly Box)
    Paint obviously
Interior (was brown, painted black.... horrible, flaking everywhere)
Speakers in dash (stock little 3" was replaced with 4" that don't fit and look like poop)
    Needs alignment
Need to go through rear (I don't think it's centered or something.)

I will update with more and more pics as I go and once I'm happy to a point with the exterior or if I start getting a few performance I'll update with my peformance plans.

One plan is 3" stacks 4-5" above the cab.

Welcome to the board. I hopie you can help out other members who are interested in doing the same swap you just did. Your max looks great, interesting choice in mounting the front mount intercooler, and I think yours would be the second max I've seen with that visor on the windshield.

Nice truck man. I like the visor and the side exit exhaust in front of the rear wheel. Did you get slightly different size tires on purpose or did it just end up that way? Just wondering if it helped to tuck them in front or something. Also, did you use the truck trans or the starion and where is the stage 2 clutch from?

I personally did not due the swap, the person who swapped the truck sold it and that person destroyed the truck, Because it has such craptastic wiring, didn't run, too many switches, it was in sad shape and I know this because I found the builder's original F/S ad.

I want to get a 93+MM Front bumper cut the center out and mount the intercooler so all of it is in that section since right now those pictures are showing only 5/8's to 3/4 of the intercooler.

I snagged the visor from a MM in my local JY. I was sooo stoked when I saw it I had to have it.

The Side exit will be leaving the truck, I want stacks like the drift truck had in this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOkYG...eature=related

Wow you got some good eyes!
    Front is 235/45R17
    Rear is 245/45R17
The middle owner who ruined the truck never had these rims bored out... so they rub everywhere, I don't have a set of stockers or anything else to throw on, and the truck has never been aligned since the lowering.

Stage 2 clutch I don't know, it grabs good, its the stock trans and it sounds like garbage, the local JY has a 5spd MM with the Hyrdaulic clutch and that same JY HAD a 2.3L Turbo diesel that was just recently crushed...
So I will be installing a Starion trans here soon, with a 6 puk clutch, and I've got a 50 trim turbo that I'll be throwing on.

Sorry no video's but if you go to Carlisle at all I'll be going for performance and Style, either in this or my ACR and I'm going to All-truck nationals as well.

My intercooler looks very similar to yours, but mines is flipped the other way. Instead of pointing down, it's pointing up in other words. That way I still kept the valence intact.

I would be very careful about running a 6 puck clutch pack with a tranny thats not rebuilt. Those clutches grab violently, and will rip a weak tranny apart; hydralic clutch setup won't fix that, and its overkill for a street vehicle. You'll hate it after a week of street driving.

Actually I had a 6 puk in a VR-4, yea it was a little hard to get used to but well worth not worrying about slipping a clutch. My Quest trans is fine, nothing wrong with it, I believe it was a low mileage one as well.
