    Okay....this is just stupid weird

Well some of you might know I just bought another MM, this time a 1995, The story goes I had a 1990 MM back in the late 90's, great truck, but while cleaning my dresser (you do that when your married) I found a left over key from the old 90'. I thought, hum let's see if it works in the 95'...Yep, can you believe that! What the hell, do they only have a few key codes

It also could mean that the lock is so worn that any key that fits would work. Geronimo's old key was so worn I could start him and pull the key out with the truck running! Fortunately, I had a second unused original key - the lock was fine.

My truck key is worn like that. The lock cylinder is too. I have to wiggle it just right to get it to turn when I wanna start the truck. Then I can pull it right back out with the truck running, go unlock my front door and grab whatever i forgot to bring with me thats still inside the house

Yea probably just worn as they stated. In my old 87 single cab i could also pull the key out of the ignition while the truck was running.

the 2 trucks I have I could use any of the keys I had. 1 would need to wiggle a little more to be used. But I think they only had like 32 different key type.

Simple, don't fix up your truck to much or some other MM owner will trade trucks with you while your picking up a 6 pack.

1:battery disconnect switch and longer battery cables.
    2: replace the column lock.
    3: More insurance.
4: I know I know.. We all get together and play key Lotto.
We toss our keys into a pot and pick a new one. What ever truck it starts is the one you keep.

    DISCLAIMER:
Odds of winning 3 to 1 increase by a factor of 5 every year by manufacture date. So if you have a 1979 truck your chances of loosing are increased by 165%

well, I do have an alarm so if someone tried to take my truck, the alarm would go off and kill the engine. Replacing the column lock would mean replacing all locks, right?

You only have to re key the door locks if you want the column key to match the door key, or you could just shave off the door handles and locks and only need the ignition key.

I had a similar mishap with my ignition. With a similar cut key thats flat wore out I can talk to ignition into turning over, I only discovered it out of pure curiosity after having a new code key made for the truck.

I will be shaving the door handles soon, all I need to do is the column. Next question, where does one find a new column?

I would take your ignition into a locksmith type place and just have it re-keyed

I'd say do it, I am way happier with no handles,I took the easy way out
and bought the filler plate thinking it would be faster but I was not happy
with the fitment, I would recommend just cutting out your own, you will
end up with a tighter fit and as a result have less time hanging out with the
welder. I don't know of you already have door poppers in mind but I used the
AVS popper becuase they have a much smaller body and fit in the door alot nicer
    due to the size.
