4x2 vs 4x4 Tranny Compatibility
Hey Guys,
I have a question concering transmisions.
I am currently in the market for a rebuilt tranny.
I have a 4x4, however I found a gentleman who will sell me a rebuilt 4x2 5 speed from the same year model as mine at a great price.
Can i just bolt up my tranfer case and be on my way?
I called around to a few tranny shops but they all have contradicting answers.
Any info will be great.
Thanks

I'm going to say yes but don't take my word for it

I want to say that you remove the tail housing and swap out the out put shaft. So no it's not a "direct" replacement but close. You could call around and get an idea on how much to rebuild the one you have.

Thanks for the info....
In swaping out the output shaft, do you think i would need to have anything pressed on?

Look in the manual section for your trany manual. We should have it somewhere in there. Whats wrong with the one you have?

Right now i have to double clutch 3rd to get it in then when i try to go to 4th it just grinds.
I am pretty sure i just need to redo the syncros but i dont know how much damage was done to the dog teeth on the gear.
I need to get a manual,,I dont have one yet.

Look in our manual section. We have PDF manuals. Look for the first gen factory manual.
