    It gets oil pressure just a fraction of a second after you fire it. By the time you see the gage move it has pressure and should be pumped up. But they do have a tendency to fail and tap all the time.

    I've had brand new lifters tick for up to 30 minutes on a brand new rebuild. with new lifters yes they pump up right away but they have to break in a little and sometimes it takes awhile to get all the air out of them.Do a standard break in run on the engine, reset valve lash and run it again for a few minutes.
