Newest dilemma

Ok I know I've seen a similar post about this issue but I think it wasn't exactly the same. I've been dealing with small issues and fixing most of them with the help from these forums. But today I have a stumper. I just replaced the throttle cable a week ago and today it broke, it's almost as if it were grounding out and it got brittle and crumbled. I don't see anywhere it could have touched to get grounded. Even with the most slack it still doesn't come close to touching anything. Almost seems like it was burnt with an open flame if that makes sense.

What would really be helpful is if you could get a couple of pictures of the cable in place.

My gut feeling is that it was Royster in the study with the candlestick;)

you have a bad ground to the block and it is using the throttle cable as its path to ground. Clean up all the grounding points - cable to battery tray, tray to frame, and frame to block. Also run a ground from the last exhaust manifold stud to the heat shield bolt on the fire wall - leave some slack for engine flex. I have also heard of tranny gears melting for the same reason

Issue solved found a loom of wires that run to the tps and ignition control module grounding out on one of this metal wire hangers. Seemed it had rubbed it's rubber coating off and made its way into a couple of wires. But here's a photo anyway.Attachment 21771Attachment 21771

Hopefully that is the end of that issue. I have to ask - what is that broken cable in the foreground of the pic? Cruise control, kickdown...?

Not a broken cable I think what you are seeing is another one of those bendy metal wire tie things with the glare if the sun

How does the throttle flap fill moving it with your hand? Is it tight or do you fill any sticking or hanging and is this where the old one broke?
