Are the 2.0l and the 2.6l interchangeable?

I have a 1983 Power Ram 50. It has a 2.0 in it that broke a rod. I was wondering if I could put a 2.6l motor in my truck without having to change anything (transmision etc.)

I'm not so sure on the 1st gen trucks(1979-1986), But I know the second gen (1987-1989) The 2.0 and 2.6 are interchangeable. Is it 2wd or 4x4, Its kind of weird for a 4x4 Ram 50 to have a 2.0 in it, I believe the 4x4 then had the option of either a 2.6 or the 2.3 Turbo Diesel back then, but I am not 100% positive. I believe the 2.0 is a narrow block, and until 1987 the 2.6 was a wide block, though I could be wrong. The best way to find out would to be to measure you bell housing and count all of the holes, then take a look at the 2.6 ,if you can, and measure and look at the holes also, and make sure it has the same. Also, the 2.0 clutch WILL NOT work on a 2.6, the 2.6 pressure plate is a 1/2 inch larger and will more than likely burn up your friction plate.

It depends on the spacing on the 2.0 block which 2.6 will fit. In 83, the 2.0 motors were narrow block motors, the 2.6 auto blocks were also narrow blocks. I am not sure if the 4x4s were available with the 2.0 motor in 1983 - I do know the rare 82 ram 50s 4x4s were all 2.6 5 speed. If you change to the 2.6 motor, upgrade to the 225 or 240mm clutch assembly - it will take the increased power and torque of the 2.6. All other mounting points will line up, and the rads are the same as well. If you have power steering, a different set of hoses and pump are needed to match the motor in the truck and where the pump mounts on the block. You will also need a 2.6 oil pan to clear the front diff and maybe the pickup as well.

i have a 89 ram 50 with a 2.0 five speed i just bought a 87 d50 with a blown 2.6. can i just put the 2.0 engine and tranny into the 87 with no problem?

should go right in - gotta keep the shiny side up...
