Hi and welcome to mightyram. Well, you've given us a pretty open question. Are you looking at another mitsubishi engine or a full drivetrain swap? And what is the current engine type? Depending on what transmission you have you might have a couple of bolt in options.
the current engine in my truck is a 2.6l 4 cylinder mitsubishi engine i would like to get something something comparable to it but an engine with a little more power would be ok as well
as far as i an tell everything is still factory stock
a 1990+ 2.4l efi motor will fit and should feel like the 2.6 you currently have. all you would need is the complete wiring harness, ecm, maf sensor, engine, and i assume an inline walbro fuel pump as a substitute for the fuel pump that would normally be in the tank on the efi trucks, unless you want to swap the tanks out too.
what options do i have if i wanted a more power full engine
thank you for pointing me in the right direction
oh and the motor would have to come from a truck, otherwise it would be a narrow block and not work. options for a more powerful engine would be swapping in a fully built 4g63/4g64 wide block. by fully built i mean turbo, forged internals, dohc, all wiring and fuel mods. you could also get a stock 4g63t and a narrow block tranny from a 1989 on down mighty max/d50 with the 2.0l. another route witch i want to do and hopefully make a write up about is swapping in a Montero 2.4l sohc 16v from a 1997-2000, wiring harnes from a 1995-1996 mighty max and use an ecm from a 1994-1995 2.4l sohc 16v galant. that way the motor mates to the transmission, wiring harness is compatible to ecm witch matches the engines specs. it would be a complete drop in. the problem is finding all these parts. they are cross years between obd1/obd2 and new/old models.
IMO the 'best' option would be a narrow trans and using a 6 bolt 4G63 twin cam turbo if you're chasing hp. It does require some engine mods to the coolant outlets and throttle body/inlet manifold to configure it to a RWD install (be warned the trans have limitations for hp/torque and will start blowing them apart when you make 300 hp+). Been done plenty of times successfully and there's a ton of info on the swap. There's also a lot of aftermarket support and parts available for these particular engines and they have a reputation for being robust.
is the starion 2.6 off limits ?
Turbo version of same motor. Bolts right in. Can easily tripple the truck output with only 'mild upgrades'
^that is the easiest bolt in swap. AND THE MOST OBVIOUS ONE (I keep forgetting you guys got 4G54 turbos in US Starions...)
