4g64 engine swap help
I have a 90 mm 2.4 4g64 8v 5 speed and it recently blew up on me. I was going to replace the engine and I have a 99 galant with a newer model of the 4g64 16v. I was trying to figure out if instead of getting a new 8v and going getting a 16v if it would, 1: mount up to the transmission so I can keep the 5speed, and 2: if it would even work. If it is possible it would be nice to have more hp and torque. I have a 1 ton package on my mm and would actually like to put it to use. Please help. I don't know if this is somewhere else on here but I've been looking for about a month and if it's possible I'd would help tremendously.

Ist issue, all 4G64's are not the same, there are 2 main versions, wideblock (which your 1990 is) and Narrowblock (which is in most Cars)
This is th spacing of the bellhousing where the transmission mounts and is usually the first problem.
research here:http://www.roadraceengineering.com/m...plications.htm
second is that the gallant motor will probably have a dual coil setup for ignition, which means you would have to get a new ECU and add wiring.
third is the Throttlebody, the IAC and TPS may be different , again warranting the change in the ECU and modification of the wiring.
also the length of the motor, as I remember the Gallant motor has the CAS on the very front of the Single Cam 16V.

Ok update, turns out I have the 4g63 engine. After ta king the engine apart due TO a blown head gasket I think. I know one thing for sure. I want to get a 16v in it. I do a lot highway travel and getting an 8v up to 70mph and keeping there for extended periods of time definitely don't mix. I think the top speed of the thing is only 75mph anyways. This is what I'm working with right now. I've got a lot to try and fix. But if I can just swap the head it'll be much easier. Just order one trough my shop at advanced and see how that works. Just need to know if it'll work. If not, I need to just replace the whole engine.

Sorry Miggy, it's not 4G63. the pix you are posting are of a 4G64...4G63 was never put in a pickup from the factory...just sayin' Check the tag on the firewall and the serial Number on the block.

That's definitely a 4g64 judging by the intake/throttle body, etc..
