I have a 1988 Mighty Maxx. I believe my fuel pump is done. Is it best to remove the truck bed or to drop the fuel tank?

On a stock ‘88, the fuel pump is attached to the cylinder head. It’s nestled between the thermostat housing, intake manifold and the carburetor. Remove the air cleaner and follow the fuel lines. The pump has three fuel lines, one in and two out. It’s mechanical and driven by the camshaft.
Some folks have converted to electric pumps but they’re mounted near and outside the tank or in the engine bay.

No. Don’t remove the carb, it’s a lot of work. If you need space from above, remove the valve cover. With the cover off, you can more easily remove and install the pump’s pushrod. To start, turn the engine to #1 TDC. It will help a bit when installing the rod and pump.Quote:
