It can be done but you need to pull the radiator and oil pan.
You pull the pan so you can remove the rotate the rear bearing back in the block to block off the oil passage. Otherwise you won't have any oil pressure.

This won't be fun to do while the block is in the truck. And you have to do both sides' shaft bearings. No visibility, no access :shakehead:
how do you know there is something wrong with your balance shafts ? ...deleting them 'just cause' ?
Lots of high mileage turbo mitsu 4s still have oem balance shafts intact
I'd never delete em.... in my starion 2.0, 2.6, DSMs or truck 2.4
I do verify they spin freely and bearings in 'good' condition, before performance upgrades tho

You are right - they have retained them. You seen what happens when they fail though? Catastrophic engine failure. There are advantages to removing them - one is taking a weak link out of the engine. Second is by removing them, it will improve throttle response and add torque/HP. I would take the engine out too to do this. It will give you an opportunity to get a good look at the engine and will make removing the balance shafts a lot easier.
yeah B-shafts can wipe out a motor, but so can a DSM timing belt/tensioner fail

With blocks getting EXTREMELY difficult to find, I would like to remove the chance of a failure.
I saw a EVO block with holes on both sides ONLY due to belt failures and because of the added stress on the back of the oil pump.
I have been looking at 4G64 Forklift engines and some have shafts and some without. It seems easier to source a new forklift engine versus rebuilding what i have.
I'm mulling over the situation.
But for now, I would like to removed the shafts as my engine has over 275,000 KM and I can imagine the beating they took over the years. The engine has a fresh timing belt 40,000 KM ago but unsure if the balance shaft belt was changed..
You can do it in the truck. It's just a PIA. Pain In Ass. Did it to mine when it broke. Also did it to IzeKeepitClean's truck when it failed after Motor Machine screwed up the rebuild.
When his failed it started sticking and the engine would slow down and speed up.
So we had to remove the belts to find the problem. The crank would turn a bit so we knew it wasn't the problem. So we pulled the timing belt and the cam turned. So we quickly found the problem after that.
We pulled the radiator and pan. Pushed it out the front. Cut it with a sawzall and removed it. Total PIA. Spend the extra 3 hours to remove and reinstall the engine.
This makes me wonder if I should just rebuild the '88 2.0 shortblock and install the delete kit in it and swap engines.
Unsure if the bolt pattern is the same on the bellhousing to the auto tranny I have in the 91 withe 4G4 engine. The '88 4G63 is hooked to a 5 speed.
That depends some 2.0s are a narrow block. The 2,4 is a wide block. Different transmissions.

Only way is to measure it. Eyeballing it while it's still assembled doesn't 100% confirm that it'll swap in. I would stick with the 4G64 anyway unless you got a performance plan waiting for the G63B. Extra 400 CC's makes a difference.

Maybe just order a rebuild kit and do it right.. but without the balance shafts.
I do have the SOHC 4G63 head I would gonna swap just for the year as I think I have a small head gasket leak. I might order the jet valve delete and see if it will work on the 2.0 Head.
Maybe put head studs in etc for the turbo or Supercharger upgrade on my bench.
