I'm still going over everything on this truck, guess it's kinda a hobby at this point.
I checked my compression and got 175 - 180 - 180 - 190 psi which is well above what the Haynes manual says is right. Nevertheless it looked like good news to me. Or maybe I need to stop shopping for my tools at the freight harbor?
Also checked oil pressure, very steady at 85-90 psi regardless of rpm or engine temp. Also a bit higher than I expected.
Sounds like the engine is healthy. Now, if this engine has a 2.0 head on it that'll ramp pressure. Don't know about the oil pressure...
I agree with geezer, definitely healthy numbers and a head swap would change the numbers for sure. Oil seems a little high, if it were my truck I wouldn't be to worried about it. What oil viscosity are you running?
The G63B engines had different oil pump assemblies - the later ones had bigger pump gears and were an improvement in oil supply and pressure over the older ones. IDK if there is a similar situation with the 4G54 oil pumps... it would explain the elevated oil pressure readings (or maybe there's an accuracy issue with the test gauge)

Is that with the balance shafts in, or the eliminator kit installed? The elim kit raises the oil pressure...

No, I can't post a video, but thanks for asking, LOL.... when I drive this truck I tend to use both hands, then when I have the oil gauge hanging into the passenger window, and trying to hold my phone camera on that might be problematic. Most of my years driving I've been a lazy driver with auto & power steering.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure I still have the balance shafts in there. I may never know unless I go taking it apart someday.
Meh, the readings are still more than respectable. Yeah don't do any creative driving trying to make a video - it will be used as evidence against you when it goes horribly wrong :rolleyes:
I agree on the numbers, my last v8 Chevy was like that high until it warmed up and at rpm.
I guess I should check back on My posts more frequently...

Maybe have a passenger 'film/record' the oil pressure so You are not distracted by an 'mechanical oil pressure' gauge
while trying to handle all of that massive horsepower & torque -
(your truck does have a passenger seat ?? nes -pa ??).
