keeping leaves out of the airbox.

I found a length of plastic gutter leaf guard at Home Depot, it looks like a plastic version of expanded sheetmetal, like you would find on a porch screen door. 1/4 inch or smaller holes. I cut this into a rectangular shape that would tuck under the end slots on each side of the cowl vent. Then I used a black zip tie in the center to make sure it won't fly away. A bit of heat with a heat gun made it lie down flat. It's not super noticeable installed and it might eventually scrub the paint from movement, but I got no more leaves in my vents!

Good idea. The plastic might not last for a long time but it won't rust or scratch the paintwork in the air channel. Way better than having the sills rot out from leaves and debris. :thumbup:

could install it inside to make it extra stealth

take the passenger side plate off when you change the oil and flush the whole lot out

TrueValue.com has a tighter knit mesh I used for the gutters on the house. Also in a roll form at Lowes that is aluminum metal and forms very easy. Pulling the vents grills and placing the mesh under the stock grill might look a bit more un-modded.

that's about the same as the stuff I used- but plastic. and I didn't think there was a way to get at the underside in the '79 models, I havn't found a way yet to be sure, no access plate like the '81 up models. If i can get the cowl plate off I'll weld studs to the bottom for push nuts and stick the screen underneath.

how is your wiper motor attached in the 79?
