I have to install a camshaft plug but I don't know the proper direction to place it. The plug is in the shape of a bottle cap, should I place the open end towards the cam? Or the closed end? Hope fully you understand lol I appreciate any advice, thank you!
Ps I looked in the service manual and there is an illustration but its not detailed enough to answer my question.
You mean like a freeze plug that is in the sides of the block (they are also referred to as welch plugs and core plugs)? They are always pressed in with the flat face first (there are special tools that can be used to install them but most guys will sit a socket into the dished side and tap it inwards with a hammer) Makes sense?
My cam plug isn't hollow, but I would guess the hollow side inwards and the flat side outwards.

Technically its not a freeze plug, but it looks very similar to one except it has rubber on the exterior and isn't just bare metal like a typical plug. I'm suppose to place it on the cam journal at the rear of the cam and sandwich it with the cam cap.Quote:

This is what it looks like.
So it appears that the cap seal is pressed in with the metal face towards the cam (the inside cavity of the cap)
I agree, it does appear to have the open end toward the cam. Thank you for your help good sir! I appreciate it! I think I will place it that way if I dont get a definitive response from someone who has done this before.
