I went to fix my shifter base plate, I shifted it up into 3rd to hold its position, when I came back to look at it and the shaft had moved, tried to shift it into other gears and it just moves back and forth and to the left and only back to the middle, now it won't come out of gear, I'm afraid one of the shift forks came loose of the main shaft, thoughts?
I think your right. Does your transmission have an inspection plate. Also check the linkage under the truck for broken pieces or binding as well as the shifter.
Try manipulating the selector back into location. It sounds like the main selector rod was moved too far and it dropped off a selector fork. If I recall I did something like this when I performed a 5 speed swap and was able to get it back into place without too many dramas.
I've tried a few things with no luck, I'll be gone till Tuesday to be able to drop the inspection plate, thanks for the advice
I took the inspection plate off the bottom of the Trans, seen what one was in gear and got it out but didn't do anything for my problem, I'll see if I can find a side plate tonight, or it might just be time to swap in a 5 speed to replace the ole 4 speed

If you can't see any mechanical damage inside the trans case it's simply dropped a selector fork. With a bit of co-ersion you should be able to get the selector rods back into place. They will normally pop out of location with the sifter lever assembly removed and you mess with the selector. Easy to sort out, just fiddly. You'll feel when the rods are all back in place - once you got it reinstall the shifter lever and you're sorted.

Yep, the main shifter rod is going way too far forward in the housing thus the disengagement of the selector rods. Forgot to ask - is the nylon retaining cup still on the end of the shifter lever? If it breaks up or is missing, it will mess with gear selection - missing cup + worn selectors = dropped selector fork.
I had made a bushing and had it in when it happened, but I do plan on buying the right bushing before it goes back together
