Hey all!
It has been awhile since I got hit w/ something I could not figure out: ('86 Max 2.6 two-wheel)... last week while running around, my fuel gauge pegged at "Super full" from about 2/3 of a tank. I figured a wiring short to the frame, but everything is scoche after a complete front-to-rear visual check. I could see the float coming off and giving me an "Empty" indication, but has anyone ever had a sending unit short out inside the tank?? Thanks! Grumppa
UHHHH... O.K., I will take that as a "No". Thanks anyway all. Luckily, I have always been a MPG junky so I know the correlation between how far I have driven and how much petrol remains in the tank. NO WAY I am dropping the tank just for a sender problem!! Motor on!! (Don't know as I could find a replacement anywho.) Grumppa
i find it easier to lift the bed off the truck. lift it just enough with then roll the truck forward.
II have seen many units go bad in the tank. The wiper arm just rubs through the wire windings. On my tank I was able to remove the sender because it was at a 45 degree angle and easy to get to. But some go directly in the top.
1st gen senders are in the side of the tank, and the 86 sender is unique to that year because of the 3 wire hookup. Mike Warme had some 1st gen senders, but only up to 86.
