I got bored and started looking at MMM's across the pond for ideas and came across the "UTE/flatbed" scene. I made this this weeked out of some DOM and recycled pallets with vinegar/steel wool stain. Opinions, be nice!

years ago I built a wooden stepside bed for Geronimo when the original bed rotted out. The outside had black plexi on it - bed built from 3/4 marine plywood. Never finished it because my now ex wife felt it wasn't safe. If I can find pics of it I will post them.
That is not actually a flat bed, so to say. Good idea though, keeps those things that might slide in a turn a little better chance of not ending up in an intersection.
Doesn't anyone extend the flat surface out back farther? Carry longer items and proportionate it with the trucks front half. Kind of looks too short, IMO. Little bang board would be cool.
vinegar/steel wool stain? :confused1:This is new to me, what is the reason for such an exotic use?
Vinegar steel wool is used to ebonize or grey wood with high tannin ie oak, cedar of which I used neither so it turned out reddish grey when not wet. The length is actually same as BED as I used that dimension to ball park size. Yes Im designing a "head board" so to speak with my logo on the cnc plasma table.Quote:

Thats it... 50/50 water/vinegar, steel wool(raw, ie no soap/sos pads), let sit for a few days vented, i filtered with colander and paper towels, then brush on. Woods like oak and cedar with lots of "tannin" turn grey or dark. I used old pine pallets and its reddish grey. Supposedly if you brew "strong" black tea and treat low tannin wood prior to vinegar it will help darken. As with all stains test first!Quote:

The Aussies love these "trayback utes." I like yours but I'd get the shocks going in the same direction. Maybe put them both behind the axle and get those big black and white billboard Gabriel air shocks because they're visible. And maybe trailer fenders to clean up the rear. But it looks great.
