Long story short: My G63B overheated twice because of a cooling system leak and I'm sure the head is warped. I found a professionally rebuilt 4G52 locally, most likely without the MCA jet head. It's narrow block and I have a KM132.
Would it fit into my truck? Is the 4G52 a step backwards in terms of performance or reliability compared to the G63B? What about the clutch and flywheel?
Is this a bad idea?
all 4g52's are astron 1's.. the inlet flange is physically different to an astron 2..
the 4g54 head will fit and it would lower your compression ratio. The bottom studs don't line up to the holes in the manifold.
I you want a turbo, find a 2.6 sigma block and put a magna head on that... you could use a complete magna
engine for standard compression but then you need to find a RWD timing chain cover so you can fit the water
pump to the front of the engine and a welch plug for the old water pump outlet...and another one for the pump
shaft that's part of the cam if you want to put your 4g52 cam and adjustable rockers in it... the 4g52 cam has
a few extra degrees and is slightly retarded\.

Thanks Brad. I'd want to keep it NA. Would be really nice to get rid of all of the emissions crap and hang a DCOE sidedraft off of one of those aftermarket manifolds without all of the coolant passages and emissions junk in the way. And a maybe a set of DG headers.
The G63B is just...ugly. This one looks nice. Less clutter. And I like the idea of chain driven timing. My BMW has a timing chain, too.
The valve cover says Astron 80, if that means anything.
Would it fit my transmission and engine mounts?
a magna carby should bolt straight onto your manifold. Chains can get noisy as they get older and at times they can make a rattle noise until the oil pressure pumps up to tension them.

Great. Now there's an '86 Starion ESI-R for sale locally for $1400. So I could kitbash the two together and end up with a fully rebuilt, blown 4G52 with all of the accessories. And an LSD.
This may end in tears.
why not use the whole starion drivetrain in the truck? BTW, the LSD won't work in the rear end of the truck - wrong size, but will work in the front diff of a 4wd.
I read somewhere you can fit it in only the 3.54 rear end. Must be wrong info.
they are both considered an 8" rear carrier, but they are 2 different sizes - the truck being beefier. If you swap the whole rear assembly into your truck it would work, although it is much too wide compared to the truck rear.
Has anyone done a Starion IRS into a truck before?
