No reverse in rebuilt tranny?

Sent in one of my 88 D50 trans to get rebuilt and waited 9 months, it would popped out of 1st and 3rd plus it would grind when putting it into gear.

So I get it back, put it back in and it still pops out of the forward gears and now it won't go into reverse even? I thought I had another shifter to try but the other trans has a shorter shaft on the shifter and the transfer case shifters. It seem to go over to the reverse spot but still tries to go forward?

Anybody got a clue or good guess what a guy can do?

Coming into this cold, I have no idea if this is automatic or manual.

sounds like either the gears are not shimmed right, or the rails are not adjusted right for the shifter. These trannies are an internal rail shifter mechanism - go to the manual section under transmissions for the procedure to setup the rails and give it to the tranny shop -never assume because they rebuilt trannies they have the manual for these trucks

The whole thing feels sloppy (loose) when it's in what should be reverse it tries to pull forward, so I would guess the reverse gear is not moving into place!

sounds like a $50 rebuild. I always use a guy that has built these many times. If the guy has never seen one , he will f it up. Robert is right it is not shimmed correct.

$50 I wish have $1,000 into it so far, I am doing a total restore on my D50 so I wanted it done right but it's nowhere close to what I was looking for. I need it for long trips but won't take it out of my driveway the way it is! Talked to the shop and I can bring the whole thing in and they will mess with it there.

The most I've ever spent on a km132 is $800. Included new input shaft , cluster gear, bearings , synchros, forks , and 5th gear. The labor should be no more than $350. $50 was a figure of speech. So many people out there doing us a half ass job charging outrageous fees. I've had 10 transmissions done between km145's and 132's in various restoration projects. If the guy is worth a crap he will honor his defective work

Located another trans for my Extended cab project next for $450 rather go that way to start then risk another grand on a poor job!
