OK I found this thread with a ddg search http://www.mightyram50.net/vbulletin/showthread.php/3289-1st-gen-to-2nd-gen-brake-swap Geezer101 posted "definitive" answer in post #12.

I need help to understand exactly what Geezer101 means by "Entire steering hub and rotor assembly". I think he means to get the spindle and the rotor and the caliper.

BTW I want to change them not because they are weak but because they are the old design with the springy wires & cotter keys holding it together. They are a real pain to deal with. As I understand it the 2nd gens are modern drop in brake pads no wires or springs etc.
I rebuilt them new when I did the entire front end. I heard about this change after I had already put in the new 1st gen parts so I figured I would do it when the brake pads wore out then sell the newish 1st gen parts to a restorer. They have started to squeal once in a while so that warning tab is rubbing the rotor.

EDIT- I found these part numbers for the steering knuckle and hub on an 87-96 mm. I think the knuckle number is RH I can get calipers and rotors on RA but these two are like hens teeth and might be spendy. I may have to suck it up and go with changing the pads and relearning how to deal with the springy wires and cotter keys. The Mitsubishi Direct Parts site indicates the hubs go back to 84 so I may be OK reusing what I have there.
Steering Knuckle - Mitsubishi (MB430828)
Front Hub - Mitsubishi (MB109618)

Sounds like that is what he meant... Don't the later calipers have 2 pistons (dunno) Just taking the whole setup might be better than piecing things together..?

Have fun driving faster :))

I just want to be able to change the pads easier.

The calipers are mounted in a different position on the spindle on the 2nd gen vs 1st gen.
with the 2nd gen spindles you can then mount the montero 2 piston calipers (but the pads will over hang the disc, there werent many options i could find with the corr3ct pcd and disc offset for this, you can probably space the caliper out but here it needs to be inspected and paid)

i woupd have to check if the calipers can swap between forst and 2nd, i think they do, but the hose might have been too short

i found this in another post i made
The twinpot calipers only work on 2nd gen spindles. The position of the calipers is different and if used on a 1st gen they will hit the tie rod. The offset is also wrong so you have to swap the 2nd gen rotor onto it as well

Thank Tortron. Funny story I was tryin to send you a PM yesterday. The question I had is Do you know of any cross fits with Pajero or L200 or any other MB vehicle sold in your hemisphere, for the 1st gen slip yoke?

yes i got a message that said my inbox was full.

i have never really looked into the slip yoke so couldnt tell you, mine is actually the mitsubishi driveshaft, with a holden v8 U Joint and flange to connect to my 700r4 trans.
i would be a bit surprised if it was any different to any of the 1980s rwd mitsubishis or even the 2nd gen? you can get mightmax/montero slipjoints new/nos off ebay, some come out of thailand

I have the right part number now MB000895. I have found some on ebay fer Montero and Pajero and Triton but nothing indicating if it might fit mine.
I sent a couple messages to sellers.
Edit-Found a guy who sold one on ebay. messaged to see if he can get more.
