Hello,

I bought my son a 1995 mighty max, 2.4L, 4g64, automatic, 155k miles, to begin learning how to work on vehicles. This is a great truck and runs great with very minor issues. However, it is showing signs of a head gasket leak. I have been trying to find the size and type of Head Bolts to replace them once the head gasket is removed/replaced. I do not want to use the old ones.

Does anyone know, if possible, the size or where I can order new head bolts?

thanks,

if the bolts are not easy to find, alongside the gasket. Are they TTY type ? Do you really have to change them ?
I never bought new head bolts for any mitsu SOHC. Reuse them, no problems.... and thats boosted starions
Even a fwd corolla that spec one-use bolts, I pieced together one motor using three. Head had to been off 3 times, and no idea if any before that
I torqued the bolts as we did the old non-yeild bolts. Final 4AFE purred like a kitten, for 6 years troublefree
Eventually blew the gasket, but I attribute that to head coolant port corroded. Even reused virgin oe bolts replacing the head. Zero probs
I did buy new $23 bolts as standby. Never needed em

Replace the bolts with ARP studs and never replace bolts again. If you have the head shaved. As the machine shop for a thicker head gasket.
gaskets come in different thicknesses. Once the head is shaved. It needs a thicker gasket. This keeps the timing of the cam proper. A couple of thousands And things change. There is a reason we machine things to a tolerance. Because if you look in the book. It gives you a distance between the cam center and the crank center. It also keeps the valves from hitting the pistons if things go wrong. And they always do. Once you start getting the two closer together. It increases compression. This leads you down a road to pinging or high Preformance. But the engine only comes with 100 HP to start with. So Preformance takes lots of money and time. Just look for LSR Mike’s engine and truck. He held the land speed record for his division.

Pretty sure none of the engines equipped in our trucks used TTY bolts, so should be fine to reuse the old bolts you already have.

Just stumbled across this mentioned in another old thread:
