How to wire this type of ignition coil?

I want to wire this ignition coil, but it looks a bit different from the original one. Any ideas how I go about it? I have a 1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 4x4

Which type of coil are you replacing? Is it a transformer type, which is like the NGK replacement (and the original stock coil), or the cylindrical, oil filled coil used on 1st Gen trucks? If you’re replacing a stock transformer coil, attach the mount bracket and ceramic ballast resistor to the NGK coil. The wire connections are the same.
If you’re not sure, post a picture so all can see what you’re up against.

It is indeed the ngk brand ignition coil.

If you're replacing an original canister-style coil with this transformer-style coil, and if the new coil doesn't come with a mounting bracket or ballast resistor (looks like a pinky-sized white ceramic bar, external to the coil itself), that may explain some of the problems you're having.

I'd recommend a Herko B108 coil, comes with the bracket and ballast resistor included, cheap and easy to get off eBay:

BTW, I found the wire routing was easier/tidier when I disassembled the Herko's mounting bracket and then reassembled it with the coil flipped around facing the other direction.

Thank you so much guys. Thank you SubGothius for the tip about disassembling the mounting bracket on the herko brand coil. I figured the ngk one was a good brand. I've never had issues with their ignition coils or spark plugs. Is herko a reliable brand?

The one with the blue wire is a condenser and the other with the white wire is a noise filter. Together they suppress noises generated by the ignition circuit that could affect the quality of your radio's sound and reception.

It's interesting your original coil has that modular terminal block on it to connect the wiring, rather than the more generic/universal screw-post terminals shown on your replacement NGK coil, so there may be another "direct fit" model of coil that can accept that connector block directly.

I can't quite make out the part numbers stamped on the side of your old coil; could you take a better pic of those, or just type those in here?

Thanks for the pic, that Nissan p/n 22433 55s10 cross-refs to a Herko B018 (not B108) or NGK U1024, direct-fit plug'n'play replacement. Looks like you'll need to reuse the mounting bracket from your original coil.

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to use the generic universal terminal type on my truck or does it have to be the plug-in type?

You could, but you'd need to clip the connector plug off your wires to the coil, crimp suitable terminals onto those wires, and figure out how to connect them up.

That said, the proper plug'n'play NGK U1024 coil isn't much more expensive than that generic coil you got, about $30 or less shipped, so if you can still return that for a refund, I'd just do that and get the proper coil:

Yeah I just get the original one. Btw, why does it have a Nissan part number. Did Mitsubishi use Nissan ignition coils?
