My power steering pump leaks quite a bit and gets hot (215°F on the pump housing), so I am looking for options. I haven't found a local shop that will rebuild it in Southern California, so I am shopping for rebuilt options. If anyone has a source that they had a good experience with, then I'm all ears. Below are the details and what I have found so far.

1.
Ebay Refurbished ($163 BBB, sounds legit)

2 (sounds like the best option for replacement/customer service)
$155 Advanced Auto Parts (Cardone Power Steering Pump Part # 21-5661)

OEM part number MB351362, no new sources, but all the auto stores have questionable results for refurbished.
MasterPro Power Steering Pump - Remanufactured - 711-2116

Not available, so this is a bit irrelevant

I would rather not try to rebuild my pump on my own unless I had some really good instructions or videos to follow. Buying a kit looks nice and cheep, but I could certainly mess it up.

The rubber seal on the cap is also pretty hard, and i can't find a replacement cap. I will end up making a gasket, unless someone know how to cut out and replace the original with an off the shelf replacement.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I don't think Cardone is a terrible option. I had one on my full-sized Dodge for years until I sold it because the transmission went out for a third time.
If you wanted to do some additional plumbing on the low pressure side, you could snag a power steering oil cooler from just about any vehicle at the salvage yard and slap it on there to help the temp.

Thanks Fingers. Brand name feedback helps a bunch.

I never thought about adding a cooler. Probably won't do that. Keeping the fluid in and air out should be a major improvement. If I start making too many upgrades then I will never finish this thing.

LOL!!! That is a hilarious take.

I think that I have to go with EBay because Advanced auto has the part not available, even for home delivery. Nobody has any Cardone stock. I ordered the last BBB that the seller on EBay had. I'm sure one more will show up right after mine arrives to drive the scarcity.

Watching g a video of an L200 getting rebuilt didn't make it look too bad. I'm not opposed to that approach in the future.
