Anyone out there modified the stock air cleaner on a 2.6L to fit a Weber 38?

Carbs Unlimited and other Weber parts suppliers have a number of air cleaner adapters for the 38 that might work and require minimal mods to the stock air cleaner:

Some have center studs like the stock air cleaner uses. The biggest question is how close is the adapter's bore to that of the stock air cleaner. If one has a comparable bore, it'll be a much easier option than trying to modify the stock cleaner.

Height might also be a problem, but there are phenolic blocks available to raise the carb, and the anchor points on the valve cover can be shimmed if the cleaner sits too high.

For my Weber swap I had initially planned on using the Redline 99010.302 airbox adapter (https://www.carburetion.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?Part=99010.302) for Toyota 20R engines, as that one has a "bridge" across the middle for the center stud. The opening is slightly wider than the stock air cleaner's, so as not to restrict airflow, and I determined that gap could be closed and sealed well enough by retaining the O-ring from the stock Mikuni/airbox interface. The center stud provided with that adapter wasn't long enough to reach through the airbox lid, but I just inserted a button-head screw below the bridge, added a threaded coupler above that, then screwed the provided stud into that coupler, which achieved the necessary reach through the lid.

There's also the Redline 99010.600 airbox adapter (https://www.carburetion.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?Part=99010.600) for Suzuki Samurai engines, which also has the center bridge but a rather smaller opening than our stock airbox, so that's more restrictive but would at least eliminate any gap/sealing concerns there.

However, I'd used a Trans-Dapt 2107 manifold adapter rather than the Redline adapter plates, and the taller rise of the Trans-Dapt put the airbox too high to fit under the hood using that airbox adapter, so I would up rigging a different air filter snorkel entirely without using the stock airbox at all.
