1988 2.0 Cylinder Head

I am needing a new cylinder head. it's the 2.0. I can't seem to find my other posts? I thought I had posted on here before.

Anyways, I am needing a cylinder head for the 2.0. Machine shop says it's warped and can't be fixed. No junkyards around where I am seem to have these trucks. I found one, but they don't keep inventory of vehicles. So I think I'm gonna check it out anyways.

That being said, are there any websites to where I can order a new head?

If your truck has the original engine, it’s a G63b. Search using that engine code and you’ll find heads are available both new and remanufactured.

Also known as a 4G63. AFAICT from the specs in the Haynes manual, the G63B may refer to versions of this engine equipped with a jet-valve head.

I'd search for both 4G63 and G63B anyway, as that technicality may not be widely-known, and some may use either engine ID interchangeably.

If you’re buying a head would it be wise to eliminate the jet valves then?

I'd say yes, unless maybe you're someplace that requires emissions testing/inspection. They won't be able to "inspect" for jet valves, but if they require all-stock equipment including a stock carb, you might not pass the tailpipe sniff test w/o functional jet valves.

That said, we have emissions checks here, but they only inspect for a cat, gas cap that seals, and functional secondary-air system (injects fresh air into the exhaust stream), and I've had no trouble passing the tailpipe sniff with my Weber carb that doesn't use the jet valves at all. Speaking of, if you already have (or plan to get) a Weber carb, just go for the non-jet head.

I’m not a 2.0 guy don’t own one just did not want the guy looking for the wrong head if there was a better choice out there so I figure I’d ask.
