What shocks on a 4wd?

What shocks do you like on your 4wd? I'm running some cheap Monroe and the front end rides quite poorly. Are monotubes the ticket on these trucks?

I added an extra leaf to my rear springs to carry wood and trapping gear in my 88 4X4 I had to find extended shocks but my ride sucked empty. Look at Rock auto they list a wide selection for many uses.

I might try some bilstiens or kyb. The Monroes are pretty soft and it feels like worn out shocks when you hit anything bigger than an expansion joint. I don't expect much since there isn't a whole lot of travel but it should ride better than it does.

KYB Gas-a-Just are very nice.

last year I put Gabriel Pro Guard struts on the front of my '88 2wd and they helped out tremendously on the handling. the also make one for the front for our 4wd trucks as well. may be worth a shot. rock auto carries them.

I just ordered KYB gas-a-just for the front and rear also. I'll report back on my thoughts vs. the completely gone shocks on it now:)

I ordered a set of gas adjust for the front today. I ran both kyb gas adjust and bilstiens on toyotas years ago and the kyb lasted longer and rode better. In fact I never wore the kybs out.

Installed the kyb on the front. Wow what a huge difference. Way better rude. Quite a job to get them compressed so they fit through the back of the control arm. Used bailing twine to hold them shut and cut it loose after getting the top pin in place.27783 fyi

I swapped out some cheaper KYBs with these recommended KYB Gas adjust on front and rear...I can't tell much of a difference if any. I live on dirt roads in the mountains and my little Power Ram kind of pounds through the pot holes. My 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4 pickup seems smoother and quieter. Unfair comparison? Probably... but I was hoping the better grade of shocks would've been more noticeable.
