Howdy, long time since I've been here yall!

I'm still having a hard time locating a 4x4 transmission near me. I have found a few but they are over 3 hours away. This one truck o found was really nice. It was rear ended but it was low miles and ran great, it was a 88 mike mine 4x4 5 speed. Would have made a great parts truck. But he's 5 hours away and wants a 3 days notice before I come and he's only available after 4, which would mean me getting home closer to 10 PM. And with my hours that won't do.

I have found quite the many 2 wheel drive transmissions but I wanted to just get a 4x4 so its a straight swap.

What does it take to convert a 2x4 transmission to a 4x4 transmission? Can I just replace the countershaft gear in my transmission with one from a 2x4?

Thanks in advance! -Paul

4x4 chassis and suspension is completely different to the 2WD. Everything up front is different - torsion bar suspension, control arms and steering hubs, front axle mounts, steering...

I mean the transmission internals. Tailshaft, output and input shaft, bellhousibg pattern, etc etc.

You’re leaving out a lot of engine and transmission specifics in your question. What truck do you have and what specific running gear are you trying to swap in?

I don't know if the transmission cases are different between the two versions, but if the 4WD transmission's case is still intact you can just pull the guts out of the 2WD transmission and put them in. I know my Dad has done that before on his.
