Hey guys, just took the ram on a trip today a hour and a half away. While I was driving the transmission started screaming. I got a little worried and pulled over. Took off again and it got to the point it sounded like one of those dog boxes in race cars.

Eventually I started up a hill and the engine just gained RPM's and didnt go. I grabbed 4th and rolled on down the road. I figured maybe it popped out so I put it back in gear. Same issue.

I eventually got to a 4 lane stop light and decided to pull over for gas as I was low. Light was red. I put it in first and nothing at all. No first, no second. With traffic behind me i put it in low range and grabbed third. No bueno. 4th worked and i burnt the clutch and got off in 4L.

Trans makes no noise but i have 1gear and 2 ranges. Any idea what this can be? The gears seem to engage as I hear the transmission, but theres no movement. The clutch feels its engaging.

Praise the lord for four low because without it I couldnt have gotten home. I wouldnt have been able to take off!

is there oil in it?

is the oil thats in it full of glitter?

I actually had a similar problem and it was one of the springs in the pressure plate had broken, so the clutch would spin with any torque applied, but i could drive it if i was real careful. 1st would just spin and shudder.

so if the gearbox didnt strip any gears its probably clutch

Brand new clutch was installed with the engine rebuild. Very unlikely it is the clutch. Theres not even a shudder or a shake, absolutely 0 engagement.

Stripped countershaft gear? I'm going to grain the fluid later today.

Unless perhaps that brand-new clutch was faulty to begin with.

could be the clutch linkage has an issue. some bolts worked their way out of the trans mounts?

Camoit may be right with his comment in th echat

I just remember I was pissed that I pulled the trans when all it was.
Was a bolt near the shifter that backed out a little. It was only like a 8mm at that. I can't remember what side it was on. But the dirt hid it.

Update: counterpart gear is stripped naked. It went to the dentist and had all its teeth removed, its literally almost flat. And there was 0 oil in the oil pan.
