I have a 4g64 right now and at first I was looking to do a swap to the 4g63t but from the research I’ve done it doesn’t look like I can legally do that in California:( so I was wondering if anyone had swapped their engine in California? Looking for some ideas. Thanks guys!

Yeah Kalifonyastan won't let you do an engine swap unless it's from the same vehicle. The only option you can fall back on is swapping the drivetrain from a V6 and that's a 4X4 = not worth it (better off buying the 4X4 complete and running as it'll be cheaper to buy outright as opposed to the huge amount of work to convert it over) You can retune the ignition to unlock hidden power but you'll need to go back to factory specs when it goes in for emissions testing. If removing the water pump driven clutch fan is acceptable, I'd go for an electric thermofan install. The clutch fan robs the engine of throttle response - there are a bunch of other reasons this is a good idea to go electric cooling. Frees up engine bay room, takes a load off the water pump bearings and works when you need it most - in slow traffic on hot days (plus you can add a manual override switch for those moments when engine temps do something sketchy and you need that emergency back up)

You have 2 options.
#1: go drive up to Supreme graphics in Susanville ca and get a box up there and register the truck. No SMOG
OR
#2: swap from a newer truck that includes but not limited to. The engine, fuel tank, all smog junk, computer, gas cap, CAT and pipe, when they say all smog related parts they mean all of it. And if it's a New truck that will include the dash board cluster.

Limited with California options. You can try to skirt the system and put another 4G in there, but if you get caught then its a no go. Get the truck you like and want with the motor already in it, so you dont have to hassle with all that BS.
