I have a 1990 MM. It has a 1994 motor.
I’m here looking for knowledge about replacing old parts. I like to keep things as stock as possible, although I welcome mechanical upgrades that make things run smoother.

Hi and welcome to mightyram. If they revoke the vehicle emissions on older cars etc in Cal you'll be in luck. The anti pollution gear on these engines chokes the life out of them. Just deleting the EGR, some port work and a retune will get them running super smooth. If you're not sure of what motor is in it - the G54B is the 2.6 and has an alloy timing cover and runs a carb, if it's injected it'll be the 4G64 2.4 with a plastic timing cover. I don't recall when the G63B 2.0 was phased out. It looks like the injected 2.4 but runs a carb instead. Your truck looks like it's in nice shape :)

Thanks for the info. It’s injected, no carb. I was told the motor is from a 94 so I guess that makes it a 2.4.

all 4 cylinder trucks in 1994 are 2.4 motors - the g63b was done at the end of the 1989 model year and was carbureted.

Thanks for confirming. Do you guys know of any after market air intakes that would fit my truck? I feel like it needs to breathe a little more. It has this crazy canister type intake that’s all closed up. I assume it’s the stock one.
